Some of the most requested scents in Beach Bum Beards history aren't even available right now. A few years back, we ran a collection called Dark Water, four scents built around a moodier, moonlit side of coastal life instead of the bright tropical daytime feel most of our lineup leans on. We eventually discontinued them, and we've been hearing about it ever since.
Why we made Dark Water in the first place
Beach Bum Beards has always been about the full range of coastal life, not just sunny afternoons on the sand. Dark Water was our attempt at capturing the other side of it, late nights, open water after dark, the kind of moody atmosphere that a purely tropical lineup doesn't touch. It stood apart from everything else we've made, before or since.
Why it went away
Every small business goes through phases of figuring out what actually works, and Dark Water was ahead of where the brand was at the time. Production and demand didn't line up the way we needed them to, and we made the call to shelve it and focus on what was working. That doesn't mean the scents weren't good. It means the timing wasn't right yet.
Why now
Years later, the requests never really stopped. Guys who got their hands on the original run still ask about it, and it's become something of a legend among longtime customers who remember it. With where the brand is now, both in terms of production capability and in terms of having an audience that's actually asking for it, the timing finally makes sense.
What to expect
We're not ready to reveal the full lineup yet, but Dark Water is coming back later this year, and it's going to roll out differently than our other launches. Expect this one to unfold in stages rather than all at once. If you were around for the original run, keep an eye on your inbox, there's something planned specifically for guys who bought Dark Water the first time around.
